So Many Tweets To Follow On Twitter
I have been twittering, is that a word, for about a year now. Well kind of steady for the last few months. And I actually have a little over three hundred tweets, post on Twitter, right now.
Now all you big time and full time tweeters don’t fall off your chair. I know I am a novice, make no bones about it. I think it is a real challenge for me and I am sure for the newbies on Twitter.
I have picked up the pace here lately and actually have a few followers. I just passed 500 and onward and upward we go. I hear you all snickering out there.
Twitter really has become the latest and greatest in the social networking phase. The functionality of having to use 140 characters makes everyone get to the point with their tweets. I still consider myself a newbie when it comes to using it correctly. But I think it is even better than a blog.
Some are even now starting to use Twitter as a marketing tool. It would be the perfect way to get the word out about a new product or service. It was used most recently to let people know about reported plane crashes, the reported earthquake in Australia and other worldwide and local events. Could be cool if you had some big event going and wanted to let your followers know about it.
Not even sure what is the correct way. One thing I do know is it should not be used as a spamming tool. I would hope Twitter has a way of detecting and dealing with spammers. I know the members will disipline you by unfollowing you. Catch my drift?
What is my point with all this. I am sure you have seen that there are people with literally tens of thousands of followers out there. Which to me is an amazing number in itself. I actually have seen people with 20,000 people they follow and followers they have.
But the bigger question for me is how do they and you keep up with so many thousands of followers? I mean I have a measily number, just over 500 and I surely can’t read all the tweets that may come through, can you? Then how do you handle that many people?
There is truly an art to this and I would like to hear just how they and you accomplish this feat. I know there are tools out there to use that can assist in helping out somewhat, but still I find it time consuming. I use Tweetdeck and Twhirl but I am sure I am not using them right.
And if I am having trouble with my followers how can I keep up with the people I follow. I have tried and I could sit at my computer all morning and not read all of the tweets. I try to read some but find myself scanning more than reading everyone. I am sorry but I can not read them all.
There I have admitted it. I can not read all of the tweets I get. But I think I am not alone. What do you think, does everyone read all of their tweets they get? If so please let me know how you do it. For it surely is an art I would like to take on for a couple of hours. NOT! Are you crazy, just joking.
But for all of you with so many followers on Twitter I would love to hear just how you are handling all of these people. And if you really want to drive me crazy, send me your link to follow. Mine is http://www.twitter.com/askarnett.

I use Tweetdeck as well, although not to it’s fullest extent. But I think in Tweetdeck you can group the people you are following into different categories, to help you see and not miss Tweets from those that you really want to read.
But I think most people (or all) do not read every single Tweet, they just can’t. So as the person Tweeting, you have to understand that and figure out how your best way to Tweet is.

I agree Joel as there are a lot of tweets I miss but I try as best I can.
I’m up to about 3700 followers and its more that not easy, its not possible to follow every tweet out there. Fortunately when stuff is directed at me its litteraly @michaelroark an those are never missed. I also use tweetdeck (who doesn’t?) and have a couple groups setup 1 for specific folks I like to read and another for specific words I want it to catch. Catching specific words is nice because it watches the entire stream, both of those you follow and those you don’t and shows tweets with that specific word in them. Its a great way to find folks who are talking about your niche!

Thanks Michael I never thought of that, makes sense to me.
I use tweet deck and have two groups added. One for must read people which is very select and do read most of those.
The other group is for people that I want to give priority to when I have time.
It also keeps your replies and direct messages separate. This allows me to make sure to keep the conversation going easily with those that are actually active.
Just a tip the people that actually converse with me tend to go in the highest priority group.

Currently I have over 4000 followers on Twitter and obviously it is not possible to read every Tweet.
I use Tweetdeck to manage my Twitter account and believe it to be the most wonderful Twitter app available. I have separate Groups set up for people I really want to read and watch my @replies like a hawk.
I love Twitter! You’ll find me @RicRaftis
Cheers,
I confess to not being enamored with twitter. It may well be my loss. But I’m not sure I need a few hundred additional distractions in my day. I am already fighting my attention deficit problems.

Great info Andre,
I don’t know how people do it. I have less than 100 people that I am following and even that gets more than I can handle at times.
I actually haven’t tried tweetdeck yet, but I am going to now. Sounds like a great way to organize myself when it comes to twitter. I have been using twhirl, but you can’t seem to organize anything with it (Or I just haven’t figured it out).
That brings us to another point. There are so many applications being developed for twitter that I can’t even keep up with those. Might be a good idea for another post.
Thanks,
Brett

I think Twitter is an AMAZING tool, but unless you’re only following around 100 people or so, I don’t see how you can keep up with every single tweet.
I don’t use Tweetdeck yet, but most of my friends do. Instead I simply use the search function in Twitter and keep an eye on my username ‘jituppal’.
That way I know everyone who has mentioned me in a tweet and can reply to them.

I don’t have very many follows yet, but it is still impossible to read all the messages – they just scroll by way to fast.
I use Twhirl but like you, I am sure that I am not using it right.
I have not heard of Tweetdeck and will have to look at it.
But there’s way to much to look at – and so less time to read tweets. And the cycle goes on.
