A Brief Internet Marketing And Health Lesson

You may or may not have noticed that I have been AWOL from my blog for a while. No new updates and that stinks. That should be something that I get to at least three to four times a week if not more.

About five or six years ago while getting a physical exam I discovered that I have Type II Diabetes. Though not fatal I came to understand that it is a common problem as you get older with controling your weight. I did not think I was that heavy but my doctor did.

He wanted me to lose weight and exercise more. He put me on the South Beach Diet and in the first two weeks I lost 15-20 lbs. It was an awesome feeling and things were going good. Of course the doctor wanted me to lose more but I kept that off for three years.

Eventually it crept back on and tried different things but none were like the original diet. I was even put on insulin which was no fun either. Well, about five days ago I stated the diet, the original diet again. My insulin dosages have been out of whack but I think I have them under control again.

Why would I be telling you this you might ask? Well if you are trying to get into the Internet Marketing field, this could pertain to you.

When you first come into to this field you are new to it. It may be something you have heard about or you may actually know someone who is an Internet Marketer. You learn about it and decide it is something you want to do.

You start earning a few bucks and say, hey, this has some potential. So you get going and decide that you should try something else. It doesn’t work so well so you try something else. And the cycle continues. So eventually you come to a crossroads, you can continue trying new things or maybe you can just give up.

But wait a minute. Before you make any drastic decisions like that about your future, think back. What was it that got you started and was successful for you? And why did you get away from it?

You could probably check with a hundred or more successful people in the Internet Marketing field and I bet at least 95% would tell you to get good, really good at one thing before you move on to something else.

Yes, stick with something that works and if anything duplicate it. So, let’s say you put up a website and you work at it to be a very good money maker. Go ahead and make another, then another and another. Perfect your skills with one thing before you move on to something else.

Have I learned my lesson with my dieting and controling my weight. Probably not, I enjoy good normal food just a little to much. But I know what works and I will keep coming back to it. You don’t have to be like that with this business. It is easy to duplicate and once you have it down you will appreciate what you have done.

  1. Wow your diet is as smart as my turtles ;) Very true that you need to become good at one thing to be successful. The jack of all trades never makes it.

Persistence pays off. Good to have you back.

Some sage advice there. The biggest reason most aspiring online marketers fail is because of a lack of focus. Internet marketing is not a business, it is a promotion medium, so what really IS your business is what you need to ask…

  4. Andre, I am learning that in the internet marketing business, you must stay focus. There are just too many things that will lead you all kinds of different directions. You give very good advice in this post.

Hope you are able to keep your Diabetes problem under control. My Dad got it late in life and it was very hard for him to change his eating habits.

  5. I definitely know where you are coming from with both the diet and the focus.

I admire you for deciding to go back on the South Beach Diet if it has worked for you in the past. It takes a lot of motivation to do this, much like internet marketing.

With internet marketing you have to be able to focus so that you can get good at it.

To complete what Mike was saying above, “Jack of all trades, Master of none”. You have to be able to master one thing and be able to duplicate it before you decide to move on to the next thing.

It is very difficult but has to be done to be successful.

    Hi Andre!

You are so right! Being focused is so important and I know it is something that A LOT of people struggle with.

    Great advice for sure!

Wow! Great analogy with the weight loss. Diets, just like IM, will work if you persist at them (it) and not lose focus. As soon as you do, well, you know how that story ends.

    Keep up the good work.

    Ron
