Are You On Twitter Yet?

Boy, it is amazing to see the increased interest in Twitter as of late. If you have been following the Internet Marketing trend, Twitter is hotter than the supposed spring we have had in the Mid-Atlantic.

It is very peculiar to see how one little site has stormed to the fore front in the internet marketing community. If you have not heard about Twitter on the news, in the newspaper or on the street, come out from under that rock.

Even the president is really into Twitter and if he can get away from his security forces long enough he might be sending you a tweet. What is a tweet you ask, well that is what they call that 140 character post you do on the site.

Now you would think that with just 140 characters what could you possibly be saying. Well, I will tell you to sign up for an account, it is free, and you will discover how much can be said with so little. Just go to Twitter.com and sign up.

I must warn you though, shh come closer, I don’t want a lot of people to hear this. It is soooo addicting. You could get so wrapped up tweeting to everyone that you can forget about food, your job, even your love ones. It is that addicting.

Okay also here is another secret. Are you ready for this? You can actually do business on Twitter. Yes, your business. If you have a particular niche market that you are in, undoubtably you will find like minded people who are also on Twitter. And it does not have to be an internet business. But remember we are not spamming, that is a no-no.

There are dog and cat lovers, gardeners, sports fanatics, golfers- a truly different breed from sports fanatics. I know because I am one. You will be amazed at the different groups that are represented on Twitter. And the scariest part is that it is still growing.

You could not find a hotter viral source runing loose around the world. Hell, it is even hotter than the Swine flu and it moves a lot faster. So, if you want to join the in crowd, boy am I aging myself, you had better get over and sign up. Remember it is free. Get your Twitter account now.

The Effect Of The Twitter Effect

Internet Marketing is a never ending changling. It seems that every time there is something new to come out there is something else even newer right behind it. You would think that the battle will never be won.

As the web has evolved a new wave of social networking sites have sprung up. Some have made it so much easier for people to stay in contact with one another.

==> See It Now

If you want to maintain that online business presence and stay ahead of the curve you must be on the cutting edge of the new technology. And I think most marketers would agree that that is true.

List building has always been at the heart of Internet Marketing. The term “the money is in the list” has become the mantre of the business. Everyone understands this but most are not able to decipher that quote to make it work for their business.

Most would like to cash in on this phenomenom do not know how. They have been taught that PPC was the way to go but unless you know what you are doing you could lose a lot of money before you got it right. And that is if you got it right.

==> Get It Here

But the new internet makes it so much easier. With social networking you can attract free, organic traffic. These are still relatively new which could give you an advantage over the competition. They don’t know that Web 2.0 is the way to go.

So Many Tweets To Follow On Twitter

I have been twittering, is that a word, for about a year now. Well kind of steady for the last few months. And I actually have a little over three hundred tweets, post on Twitter, right now.

Now all you big time and full time tweeters don’t fall off your chair. I know I am a novice, make no bones about it. I think it is a real challenge for me and I am sure for the newbies on Twitter.

I have picked up the pace here lately and actually have a few followers. I just passed 500 and onward and upward we go. I hear you all snickering out there.

Twitter really has become the latest and greatest in the social networking phase. The functionality of having to use 140 characters makes everyone get to the point with their tweets. I still consider myself a newbie when it comes to using it correctly. But I think it is even better than a blog.

Some are even now starting to use Twitter as a marketing tool. It would be the perfect way to get the word out about a new product or service. It was used most recently to let people know about reported plane crashes, the reported earthquake in Australia and other worldwide and local events. Could be cool if you had some big event going and wanted to let your followers know about it.

Not even sure what is the correct way. One thing I do know is it should not be used as a spamming tool. I would hope Twitter has a way of detecting and dealing with spammers. I know the members will disipline you by unfollowing you. Catch my drift?

What is my point with all this. I am sure you have seen that there are people with literally tens of thousands of followers out there. Which to me is an amazing number in itself. I actually have seen people with 20,000 people they follow and followers they have.

But the bigger question for me is how do they and you keep up with so many thousands of followers? I mean I have a measily number,  just over 500 and I surely can’t read all the tweets that may come through, can you? Then how do you handle that many people?

There is truly an art to this and I would like to hear just how they and you accomplish this feat. I know there are tools out there to use that can assist in helping out somewhat, but still I find it time consuming. I use Tweetdeck and Twhirl but I am sure I am not using them right.

And if I am having trouble with my followers how can I keep up with the people I follow. I have tried and I could sit at my computer all morning and not read all of the tweets. I try to read some but find myself scanning more than reading everyone. I am sorry but I can not read them all.

There I have admitted it. I can not read all of the tweets I get. But I think I am not alone. What do you think, does everyone read all of their tweets they get? If so please let me know how you do it. For it surely is an art I would like to take on for a couple of hours. NOT! Are you crazy, just joking.

But for all of you with so many followers on Twitter I would love to hear just how you are handling all of these people. And if you really want to drive me crazy, send me your link to follow. Mine is http://www.twitter.com/askarnett.

Well Mr Twitter, Where Do We Go From Here?

I don’t know if you saw the news report or if you even knew about it. Twitter turned down a supposed offer of $500 million from Yahoo. It seems that they thought that the price was just not right.

There are two rules of thought about that. Either Twitter thinks that they are worth way more than what was offered or they have a better offer on the table. Obviously it must be being kept very secret as there has not been a whiff of news about it.

I really do not understand their thought process. There are a large number of people that use Twitter. Of that I am sure. But how exactly are the owners profiting from all this? Twitter is free to join and there are no fees involved with using their service.

I saw a interview with Evan Williams, one of the co-founders and chief executive of Twitter on Charlie Rose. This guy was also one of the co-founders of Blogger, which he sold to Google,  so I am sure he has a boatload of money set aside. But how long can they go without making any money? He would not confirm what the offer was from Yahoo but it was a lot.

There are all kinds of ebooks, courses and other types of media where everyone is trying to show you how you can make money using Twitter. So, how can these guys not be sitting around trying to figure out how they can make money with Twitter?

I kind of think that Yahoo saw the potential and wanted to get in and make some money with this media before someone else figured out how they could best use Twitter. This was just the first round of bargaining. And hey Twitter we don’t think you were acting in out best interest, trying to police Twitter and keep it clean from gross advertising.

And I just read an article that said that John Mayer was starting to do an ad for Campbell Soup on his Twitter site. Now I am not a follower of Jon but if someone I was following blatantly started doing ads for products straight out on their site, the unfollow button would definitely be used. You can read about it here.

Knew it was only a matter of time before all of the big companies would try to get into Twitter. I think this is the opening shot, they all wanted to do it but no one wanted to be first. Now that it has happened it is just a matter of time before it spreads. We will have to see how the Twitter public feels about it.

If everyone kind of has a so what attitude we will be bombbarded with tons of entertainment types jumping on the bandwagon advertising everything under the sun.

But if Twitterland rises up and starts fighting back unfollowing the group that sell out, and it would be a sell out, our voices will be heard. Do you hear that Guru’s. Take heed and a warning. We know yo advertise to us but you are subtle. Maybe you need to go to these advertising agencies and show them how to approach the Twitter herd. It can be done just not straight in our face.

So, the first shot has been fired. Who next will give it a try and will Campbell Soup be successful in their campaign? Only time will tell, but maybe we better start looking for the next big Twitter out there. It probably has started, we just aren’t in to it yet. Hear that Ning?

How About Some Twitter Rumblings

It is really interesting when you hear something from someone and it turns out to be true. Case in point, about two years ago I was participating in the Thirty Day Challenge put on by Ed Dale, Dan Raines and their crew every year.

This was about August ’07 and they usually start it off by giving you some tools to use that will assist you in the challenge. One of the tools that they recommended we should sign up for was a site called Twitter.

Any of you that have tried the challenge might remember that time. I am sure there were many like me that decided to sign up for Twitter but did not use it a lot. Probably we did not understand the potential. Sorry Ed.

Well let’s spring forward to just last year and all you heard people talking about was Twitter. It was Twitter this and Twitter that. It had become a phenomenon. If you did not Twitter you were not hip.

I know, I know, there are those of you that probably were way ahead of the curve when this Twitter first arrived on the scene. Come on you guys are always ahead on things like this.

As we move forward now we have Twitter tools, twhirl, we have Tweeple, Tweeps and a few other Twitter related terms.

It is quite the society and it is one of the biggest social networks. I get a kick out of reading the different things that people are twittering about. Some good stuff and some well…

Now you even have some Internet Marketers that have found you can get a following by getting involved and some are even able to sell some products on the site. I have no problem with that.

Now comes this new item that I see a lot of. Something called Twitter Getter. You can post on your site showing someone where they can get over 19,000 sign ups in 30 days. At first you might think like yeah, I want all of those followers for my site.

But wait, who are those people signing up to your site? Are they following you because they like what you have to say or because the thought that they might get an equal number of sign ups is so intriguing?

And that is my dilemna. Is this really ethical? And is it what Twitter was set up to do. Okay, I also want to tell you up front that I also signed up for this and I just want to say I did not inhale. Did I get a bunch of new sign ups. Yeah, I got a few but not what has been advertised, unless they all show up at the end of that 30 day period.

And another thing I want to know. Why are all of the “Guru’s” who already have a name signing up for this service and advertising? Are they not big enough that people will follw them because of their name? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just some rumblings from the New Breed Marketer. Would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. Leave a comment and tell me what you think about this.
