I learned a long time ago that learning from people who know what their doing is only going to benefit you in the long run. I would also add that subscribing to their newsletter is another way to stay on top of things. I'm on Mike's and Doug Champigny's list and value their emails. Identify the leaders in your field and learn from them. Mike Paetzold is certainly a good one to follow. Not only does he provide good information, he is an excellent role model to follow. Although I don't think it's necessary to post as frequently as he does to be successful. Like Lonnie above, I had the priviledge of having him visit one of my blogs as part of his blog tour. Don't think I will be able to live up to the high standards he set with his five days of blog content for some time.
