Make your blog interactive
Mike Paetzold back again for day 3 of my visit here at New Breed Marketer as part of the Old Bald Guy’s Blog Tour.
This stop I am talking about WordPress and here is what has been covered so far…
Today we will discuss making your blog more interactive. This will help you in 3 ways.
- Pick up back links
- New content
- Keep it fresh
Let’s talk about Twitter first. Twitter has become a blogger’s best friend and there are numerous plugins that will allow you to integrate your blog with Twitter. I personally use Tweet My Blog which will automatically tweet each post I make to my Twitter followers automatically.
It will also allow me to integrate my last x number of tweets (you set the number) into my sidebar. This way every time I tweet anything when the spiders next visit there is new content on the blog even if I have not posted anything new on the blog.
Facebook allows you to add your Twitter feed to your Facebook page and this will create another backlink automatically when using Twitter automation from Facebook.
Friend Feed is the next item and again you can integrate it with your Twitter feed and your Facebook feed. Can you see how taking the time to integrate these will help you get back links and you can also attract followers to all of those sites at the same time.
All of those are great but the absolute best way to make your blog interactive is generating….
Comments
Comments create additional content and freshen your blog each time some one leaves one. Here are 2 plugins you can use to help reward your commenters and give them an additional reason to interact with you.
Do Follow – This removes the default no follow link that WordPress uses. You do bleed some PR but you get additional comments. The downside is that you need to moderate more and you need to let people know that you follow. I add a notice in my side bar to let people know that I do follow on my blogs.
Comment Luv – This will automatically go search for their latest blog post and link to it if they use a blog as their link when commenting on your blog.
Finally just ask for comments. I do that quite frequently on my blogs and while on tour I will be giving stuff away to one person on each blog I visit that comments and adds to the content.
Finally make it easy. Stay away from making people register to comment or run through a captcha form. This will kill the number of comments you get. Instead use a spam plugin like WP Spam Free that will eliminate most of the garbage right off the bat and moderate your comments.
So leave a comment below and tell me how I am doing this week as I visit here.

Mike glad to see what you said about captchas on your blog.
I was using them and someone commented on one of your post when you was doing you tour at my blog that they almost didn’t comment because they got the captcha wrong.
He said he normally would not bother to try again, but thank goodness he did and I immediately removed the captchas from all my blogs.
