Should You Or Should You Not Sell Affiliate Products?

So you have made the decision that you want to work from home And internet marketing doesn’t really sound that bad. Now you have to come up with what you want to do. You want to get started as soon as you can and of course you don’t want to spend a lot of money doing it. Well I think affiliate marketing could be a great place for you to start.

Let’s look at the positives…

You don’t necessarily need a website to start. You could purchase a domain and just do a redirect to the product owners sales page.

It should be really easy to get started with promoting. After all you are not having to produce a product, try to get testimonials, put the product up on Clickbank or write awesome copy.

How about you have the easy job, you just have to promote the product through your affiliate link.

You should be able to get a lot of promotional materials from the product owner in the form of blog posts, articles, emails, and keywords you can use.

There isn’t a lot of money coming out of your pocket to get going. You can do some promoting using article marketing for free as well as blogs. If you have those steel nerves you could even venture into pay per click.

There is no need from you to be involved with customer support. That is the job of the product creator. They have to worry about customer support, answering questions, giving refunds, etc. You can get a good sleep at night not having to worry about that and your only concern is trying to make sales.

With the stats you can pick up from Clickbank on the product you can determine just how good a product this really is and if you want to keep selling it. If you are not happy with this particular product you are not obligated and could pick another product to promote.

Now how about the negatives…

By selling someone else’s product you are only getting a commission off of each sell. If you were the product owner you would get 100% of the sell.

You have to work with whatever product you have. You cannot change it, increase the price or even make improvements on the sales letter.

You will not be able to brand yourself by selling someone else’s product. You will want to have your own products so you can establish yourself as an expert in your niche.

If this is a popular selling product on Clickbank you might have some serious competition trying to sell with you. And they may have a lot more selling experience than you do. You will have to learn some good selling techniques to try to compete. And with different products there may be different ways to sell that product.

You will definitely want to read the terms of service to make sure you are doing things the right way. All product TOS may not be the same. You will want to make sure you are following the rules so review the terms thoroughly.

As you can see with most things there are positives and negatives to becoming an affiliate marketer. Once you have reviewed all of the information you can make a determination to see if that will be something you would like to do. Just be sure you find out all of the information you will need so you can make the right decision to be successful.

  2. Great post, Andre!

Getting started online through affiliate marketing shortens the learning curve and the income horizon greatly, and lets new online marketers perfect their traffic generation strategies before making their first product – and helps them to build their opt-in list in preparation for the day they branch out into their own products.

  3. Great points about the pros and cons of affiliate marketing. When first starting out it is a good way to get your feet wet and learn the business. I agree though that branding yourself early is important such as having your own domain and blog. That way you can still do affiliate marketing without creating your own product but the positive will be that you can promote using your site and maybe even start building your list through it.

Your right, affiliate marketing is a great way to get started, but I think we all need to understand the negatives as our online business grows. It can make sense to start making your own products as time goes on.

  5. Good points Andre.

The key is to set up a list building system first and always before promoting a product so you can continue to show these prospects other items.

  6. Shelby Carr says:

Selling affiliate products is definitely the least expensive way of selling online. You don’t have to have the expense of a website and will learn how to market products before they start with creating their own.

    Great post, Andre!

I’m all for affiliate marketing, and have to recommend it to people as their first step. Eventually, and frankly as soon as possible you need to develop your own products, but even then you will probably want to continue promoting other peoples products as well.

  8. You make some great points about both the pros and the cons Andre!

Affiliate Marketing is definitely a great way for someone to get started in internet marketing, however, as some have said in the comments above me, it is best to have your own products and use affiliate marketing to fill in the blanks.

An affiliate marketing business is one of the more popular types of online business. It is much more competitive than it was a few years ago, but one advantage is that you can get started even if you are on a tight budget. With low start up costs and good profit potential, affiliate marketing is definitely worth your consideration. But it also have some limitations….Thanks for the sharing the adv & dis.Really a nice post.

  10. The positives out weight the negatives, so yes we should sell affiliate products. As has been stated, promoting affiliate programs is the quickest and easiest ways to get started.
