Are You Using Google’s Custom Search Engine

Google has come to be a lot of things for different people, starting with your basic search engine for most people just looking for information to a very powerful marketing tool to get your business moving forward. We can begin by saying there are several different kinds of searches, including Google’ Custom Search Engine, that you can use to make your search returns exactly what you want.

Some beginning search tips to start with:

As you start to search, you need to learn to use keywords instead of simple words that you might be using with everyday speech, like “what,” “for,” “to,” and “how.” Now you don’t have to search in full sentences, in fact, that could be a bad idea. You can probably get better and more useful results by using specific keywords instead of sentences.

For instance, by using two plain keywords, colors and tulips, your Google results show: Results 1-10 of about 2,040,000 for color tulips.

But, if we put the terms in quotes: “what colors do tulips come in” we get this result:

Results 1-10 of about 5,810 for “what colors do tulips come in”.

If the results you are getting are not what you want, try another search using synonyms. More descriptive adjectives like “popular” or “hot” may be too generic to be much use to you sometimes. Decide what term you are looking for and use a more specific descriptive search.

You should also take into consideration as you search, Google is not psychic, but a purely mechanical process of comparison and whatever their ever-changing algorithms return. As you can see, apples, Apples, apple and Apple are all the same word to Google and will get you the same results.

When you are searching for information you have to use specific techniques that are not so well-known. One of them is Google’s Custom Search Engine, which is a tailored search experience that you can customize using Google’s Search technology in different ways. Said another way, you can make a customized search engine on your own website for the benefit of your customers and visitors.

Another powerful application is the “Custom Search on the fly” which will let you automatically search across links, bookmarks or blog rolls. Then use the links on your web page to make a search engine and your directories can be made searchable. If you want to turn on this powerful tool, all you have to do is copy the code Google makes available and paste it in the HTML code for your web page.

Instantly, you will see a search box on your web page and, when you search, the results will be focused on the sites your page links to.

You could even make some money by using “Adsense for search,” another application in this suite of focused and powerful tools you can use. Some of the benefits are:

- Create a search engine on your website in minutes
- Customize the look of the search results and the ads
- Adjust the results and the ads to enhance your site’s content and the needs of your visitors
- Get more related search results that match the interests of your viewers with better indexing

All it takes to use Google’s Custom Search Engine is create a new account or just sign in with your existing Google account. There are two levels of access, free and business.

With a free account you can create a website search engine for any websites you are interested in on the Web. Google will place display ads on your searches.

A business account can start at $100 a year and lets you add a search engine focused on a business’s public website.

A Look At Three Article Directories

Article marketing has been established as one of the best ways for driving traffic to your websites and blogs over the last few years. There are over 500 directories online just waiting to accept and publish your and others articles being written on just about any subject imaginable. Let’s have a look at three article directories which are very popular online, Ezine Articles, Go Articles and Associated content.

EzineArticles.com

By far one of the most popular sites and has built its reputation as a premier, #1 article directory for over nine years. They have built a very high standard of quality, one article at a time, and that has helped them with their popularity with both authors and those seeking out new and quality content for their blogs, websites, ezines and newsletters. They are proudly advertising to “hundreds of thousands” of visitors everyday.

They will allow their new accounts to submit 10 articles that have to meet or exceed their editorial guidelines. If you can get your articles to meet their strict editorial guidelines, you could be upgraded to their Platinum membership level. But meeting their submission standards is not easy. they have an in-house editorial team to review every article submitted for publication.

They will only accept original articles and if you want to open an account with them, you will have to certify that you, as the author, have exclusive rights to the content. If you can meet that criteria, you will be able to display a badge of honor on your blogs and websites…Expert Author. Also, any articles you submit from then on get faster approval.

GoArticles.com

This is more than just an article directory site. You will see it is also a search engine with more than one million indexed articles. And they are very proud of the more than 135,000 authors and over 12,000 article submissions every week. They have a published goal of becoming the best and largest article database on the web.

GoArticles will index new artciles submitted to them once a day, which usually means that your article submissions are available and searchable within 24 hours of your submission. If you are a member of Go Articles and have at least one article submitted, you can buy a premium position at the top of any category or sub-category.

When you have made an article selection with the radio button below each article, they will email you your article immediately.

AssociatedContent.com

As an author submitting to AssociatedContent.com, you could be benefited three ways. You could get paid for your articles, have your articles published and delivered on their partner sites.

When you open an account, you will be able to submit articles on any topic or choose an assignment that someone needs written. You could submit articles, videos audio or images. The size of your audience for your submissions could be millions of monthly visitors. You can also submit to Facebook and Twitter or to your blog directly.

As you submit articles, you can earn money in two ways, payment up-front or on a performance bonus based on the traffic generated to your articles. Usually the up-front payment is small, ranging from $4 to $5. They will pay up-front for a wide range of articles: product reviews, how-to-articles, guides of all types, and holiday articles, to name a few.

Now, the performance bonus is controlled by page views, usually at the rate of $1.50 for 1000 page views. That rate can change at any time.

From the over 500 article directories online at any given time, the three directories talked about here are class acts. As with most quality businesses, you should provide good content in order to take advantage of the positive benefit to your reputation as a credible author.

Questions For A Successful Internet Marketer

A lot of people come to internet marketing thinking they will be able to fulfill their dream of making it online and making a lot of money. And who isn’t interested in making it big, making enough money that they can quit their regular day job and make it online. There are many with that dream.

But maybe you have been in the business for a while and have realized you are not making the money like the big guru’s do. What is it that separates them from you? What are the successful internet marketers doing that you aren’t?

Do you have a successful model?
Nobody ever said that being a successful internet marketer was rocket science. You need to find that business model that will work for you and then concentrate on getting it working right. But, then how many times have we started on one business model and as soon as the next model comes along we abandon our original model. You must stick with that one model, work it until you get it right and are making money, then just take it up a notch to a larger scale and then find another stream to add to your income.

Do you work on your business or in your business?
This is usually the question that catches people off guard. They get so tied up in their business that there is not time for them to step back and make the BIG plans for the business. You can see they need help by finding different ways they can automate their system or even try outsourcing some of the work.

Do you have a list?
It is a proven fact, you need a list. As you get started, that should be your number one priority. Without that list, the only way you can generate sales is by getting constant traffic. By having that list, you have a ready made audience that you can market to – and they are probably more likely to listen to what you have to say.

Do you drive traffic to your site?
It really is important to have a plan in place as to how you are driving traffic to your site and you must work it everyday. That can be done by social bookmarking, article marketing, forum commenting, Twitter, etc.

Do you have your own product?
A great many internet marketers will start out with affiliate marketing, selling other people’s products, because it can be easier and cheaper to start out with, and there is not as big of a learning curve. There are a lot of people making lots of money with Affiliate Marketing, but you will be able to make even more money if you have your own product. And hey, you can even do both, sell affiliate products as well as your own products.

Do you know how to do videos, podcasts, teleseminars, etc?
You should not feel like you know it all because there is always something new you can learn. And don’t feel left out because you don’t know how to do something. You can jump right in, try to figure it out the best you can, ask for help in the different forums, watch instructional videos, contact the support staff, etc. You can’t make any excuses.

Have you built relationships?
I am sure you must have friends. It can be so much more fun if you have internet marketing friends because you can help each other out. You can answer questions, get your questions answered, you might form some profitable joint ventures, and have ready-made affiliates.

Do you have a sales funnel?
Here is where the real game begins. Where you can separate the men from the boys, the big earners from the wannabes, in the internet marketing world. Here is where you don’t just sell a product; sell it, make money on an upsell, cash in with a backend product, etc.

There are a great many more questions that can be asked of your self similar to these, but now you get the big picture. Take that step back and take a good, hard look at your processes and see if they can be done better in each area. If you can make these improvements, you might find that you have just increased your income.

The Link Between Gurus and Traffic

Traffic, traffic, it is all about the traffic. It really doesn’t matter how great your product is, how long you have worked to put together just what people want and need, or even just how good your professionally-done sales page converts – if you are not generating traffic, you won’t make any sales.

So the million dollar question is, how do you get traffic. A lot of people are spending a lot of time developing their product, which isn’t a bad thing, but then don’t spend the time introducing the product to the world in every way they can. Then there is the time and money you have to spend after product development. So really, it’s the marketing that will make you the money.

And you are thinking, sure all Mr. Guru has to do is send a out a promotional email to his list and he will make big money. You don’t expect him to have to bend over backwards to market his products. But let’s look at two things that are wrong with this assumption.

1. Gurus spend a lot more time and money marketing their products than you know. They can hire the best copywriters to write the sales copy, have tools created for their affiliates, let the affiliates know all the details, oversee everything or hire a launch manager to do that, use social media to get the word out about the product, put together a series of emails, blog posts, questions and answers, and more. If it’s not a big seller, they have lost lots of money.

2. Gurus do have to make concessions to market their products because of the current economy and stiff competition. You might have noticed more people coming on line these days and they are seeking out ways to make money, but more people are keeping their wallets shut. There is certainly plenty of free stuff online to show them what they want to know (moving the free line) and they are already feeling the pinch of layoffs or decreased income. The competition is fierce, many products look so much alike that a marketer really has to make his stand out as unique, even the gurus.

So, how do you generate traffic? You might have heard of the different ways already – using social media, writing articles, doing Pay-Per-Click, backlinking, guest blog posts, getting affiliates/JV partners to promote, commenting on blogs, answering forum questions and putting your link in your signature, etc… and do not forget to use keywords, Wow, that is a lot of work!

Have you been trying to use all of these? You might have tried some of them, maybe a lot of them, but you are still unsure which one is the best. You might be spreading yourself to thin by trying to use almost all of them. You may not have enough time or money to do each traffic method justice.

Come up with a plan that you can put in systematically. After you have jumped in deep enough to a particular traffic method, then you will be able to analyze your results. For instance what if you decide for your new product to do article marketing, guest blog posting and forum answering.

Make a decision as to the number of articles you are going to submit, where exactly you are going to submit them and strategically place some of them on your site with some text anchoring and backlinking between articles. Be aware – you can not write just a couple of articles for this method to work. The more articles you have, the more traffic you can generate for your site.

If you want to do guest blogging, try contacting 3 or 4 bloggers who have good traffic numbers and have a decent page rank, and offer to write a blog post for each of them. Of course you want the subject to connect with your product and be sure you are writing different articles for each guest blog.

It will not be hard for you to get trapped in forums and wanting to read all that is there, so keep your focus. You are there to find questions that are related to what your product is about and finding answers for them. That is one of the ways to be branded as an expert. The better you can answer their questions the more people will notice you and that link you have in your signature.

Traffic will not come easy, you will have to work for it. You will be using different techniques. And you will want to give those techniques a chance before you give up on them. And remember just because something works for one of your products does not necessarily mean that is will work with another product in a different niche. It may take some trial and error before you get it right. Just don’t give up.

Are You Managing Your Time Effectively On Twitter

We are all caught up with how much fun Twitter is, no doubt, but as we also know, it can take up a lot of your precious time. But, to say whether it will take up all of your time and whether it does or does not give you the results you would like, can be purely up to you. Here are some Twitter time management tips that may help.

Be sure you don’t click on any of the links in a tweet unless…

1. You are getting tweets and links from someone you are trying to build a relationship with. If this is happening, read the blog post, website page or article quickly and then make sure they know you by commenting on their blog, retweeting with something added showing you read it, tweeting them about what you thought (in 140 characters or less), or by emailing them and letting them know what you think. This can be a good way to building a relationship with someone on Twitter.

2. That tweet and the link is directly related to your current project, as in additional information you would probably benefit from having or checking what a competitor might be doing. What, you are not following your competitors?

For you to be clicking on any other links, while they may hold interest to you, will be using up valuable time.

Also, don’t be sending out promotional DMs unless…

1. That person has specifically asked for them.

2. They are going to a friend who will directly benefit from them.

If they aren’t then you are wasting valuable time sending promo DMs to people who will come to resent it and will unfollow you for spamming them. Then they might turn around and tell their followers who may be following you. That would definitely be a negative return on your time.

Determine your purpose.

As you get ready to log on to Twitter, have you determined why you are going on there? Maybe you want to strengthen a relationship with someone you may want to partner with, Then go for it. You could be looking for the latest news in your niche. Then just be sure that you are focused on just that or you could end up all over the place and then… If you are just trying to socialize and crack a few jokes, then go for it but maybe limit your time before you get back to work.

Twitter = Reward

If you think you might want to do the above, i.e., just socialize or crack some jokes, maybe you could consider using Twitter as a reward. Get those other tasks completed first, especially the harder ones that can get you some return and then you can reward yourself with some Twitter time. That way you can not only get those harder task done, but you will get them done quicker.

Turn off the notifications.

Do you get emails throughout the day stating you have a new Twitter follower and you can follow them back too? Those can be pretty hard to ignore so why not stop them from coming. Just get into that Twitter profile and hit that button that says you don’t want to be notified of new followers. There, that has saved you a lot of time!

Set a timer.

Here is a little experiment for you. Set up a timer and monitor your time. You will be totally surprised at how much time you are actually spending on Twitter. You don’t have to do anything fancy, just set a kitchen timer right there on your desk, or try using your oven timer so you decide how long you are going to spend on Twitter and lets you set how long you want to be there.

Hey, I am not trying to tell you, Don’t Use Twitter, because it can be used as an integral part of your marketing strategy. But as a marketer, time is important and that time you may be spending on Twitter could be spent on other task that can make you money.

I have only touched on some highlights on this subject. My good friend, Mike Paetzold, The WordPress Guy, has written an ebook on this subject. Twitter Time Saver is an awesome guide that can show you how Twitter can be used to improve your business. And yes, I am an affiliate for the product that will possibly help you make more money, so have a look at it and tell me what you think.

Website Flipping Explained

What is website flipping?
In simple terms, let’s say you start a new website or blog from scratch, then you build it up with money making content and sell it for a profit.

If you are familiar with house flipping, it follows the same principles. There are even some house flipping shows on TV you might have seen. But instead of adding value by painting, adding trim, flooring and the hardware, you are adding value with those quality articles, good products, ads, backlinks and most important, traffic.

What do I do first?
As always, you should first find a hot, popular niche that people are interested in trying to solve their problems and internet marketers want to buy that solution for those because they know that people will want to visit and solve their problems. Because you want to flip that site you will want to try and pick a subject that will be evergreen. For example, even though that Christmas site might get some awesome traffic stats and some really good sales, it is usually going to sink after the holidays are done and stay that way until the season rolls around again.

When you want to find what’s hot, check Google trends, Amazon, eBay, etc. Why don’t you even check out the Warrior Forum to have a look at what people are buying and selling and making money with. It is also a good idea to check out what has been sold on the WF under “Websites For Sale.”

Okay, I have picked a niche, now what?
* You can start deciding on a domain name, purchasing it and pointing it toward your hosting.

* You can choose a blogging platform, be it Blogger or WordPress, my first choice, if you are going to use a blog. You can make or have made a mini website if you plan on doing a website.

* Make a decision on your method of monetization. You could add Adsense, or sell ad space and/or sell a product.

* Now you want to put that quality content on the site. There are a couple of ways you can do this, you could add in fresh content everyday and commit to a schedule of doing this or you could get your content together all at one time and drip feed it. When you do it daily it will help you keep up to date with what is going on in that niche, but it can be stressful getting content daily, especially if you are doing other things as well. On the other hand, you could take just one day and get all of your content ready and put it all in that drip feeder to post every day for you, then you can move on to other things.

That content you put together can be a combination of original articles you have written yourself or you could outsource them, some PLR that you have acquired on that niche and affiliate tools (articles or blog posts) on that product you are promoting given out by the product creator.

That doesn’t sound too hard. How do you make the site worth more money?
The value of that site can mean different things to different people, but a site will have more value the more established it is. And if it is an authority site, has lots and lots of pages with good content, (written, video, graphics), has plenty of backlinks, is already making money and been going for a few months and it gets good monthly traffic and the product converts well, you then have put together a very valuable site that will be better than a site that is less than a month old and has only 10 articles on it.

Since you know traffic will be very important, better get those SEO skills going. Be sure to do your keyword research and make sure you are putting those keywords in your articles as well as your website. Also, you will want to do some backlinking, article marketing and maybe even some pay-per-click.

Here’s a tip: You want to get Google Analytics on your website immediately. This s a tool that website buyers like to look at to confirm your traffic numbers and the sooner you have it on the site, it will provide more history to your potential buyer.

There has been a trend of some marketers making a good living making new websites and flipping them. Some might even buy a site that has been flipped, fix it up a bit more and turn around and flip it for even more money. You might find website flipping is something that appeals to you.

Using This 7 Step Formula For Writing An eBook

As you progress in the world of online marketing you will eventually want to create your own product. An eBook could become a good way to make money. This has proven to be successful for many people with the digital information business model. Writing an eBook can seem to be a difficult task, but you will find it is not as hard as you think.

Yes, there can be a lot more that is involved, but try these seven steps that can get you started:

1. Do your research and pick your niche.
when you are looking for a niche to write about a lot of people start out by writing about their passions or knowledge. Others will pick a competitive market because they know there is money to be made there. Go ahead and try out a few of your ideas making sure they are not to broad or to narrow. To broad can mean too much competition from the big boys and too narrow means there might not be enough to the topic to continuously create content around. Also with it being so narrow there may not be enough people who are interested in the topic.

2. Find your keywords.
You will want keyword phrases that even though they may be very popular do not have a lot of competition. We all know that is not truly possible but you should try to get as close to it as you can.

3. Make sure those keywords are money-makers.
You should check to see if there are any Adsense ads on the right side of the page when you are searching Google for your keywords. If you can find some ads, that is good. That can show that there is money to be made or that people who are paying for those ads would not waste their time.

4. Find the questions people in your niche are asking.
You could try looking at Yahoo Answers and see what people are asking bout easy enough. You will also want to go to a few forums in your niche and see what problems people are having. Look for 5-7 questions or problems to work with.

5. Research the answers to the questions.
Those questions and answers you pick up can turn into chapters for your eBook. It should be easy to do an online search for the answers or even look through the top article directories. Then you can write that ebook one chapter at a time, in your own words. But, no need to stress out over it, if you do not feel that you have the writing ability you could always outsource it. Then you would not have to hire an expensive ghostwriter to write your book, you could outsource each chapter as if it was an article. You will pay a lot less for 5-7 articles and you may even be able to get a discount if you hand them your research links too.

6. Put the book together.
You want to make sure the book flows from chapter to chapter. Be sure to add a disclaimer and privacy info as well as a table of contents. You will also want to include any affiliate links in the body of the eBook and/or in a resources page at the end. You can add to the perceived value by adding stock photos, screen shots, borders and tips or quotes in boxes.

7. Turn the ebook into a PDF.
If you need to you could use Open Office or maybe your computer already has a PDF coverter. Once you have it turned into a PDF you can then upload it to your site, create a sales page and get to work driving traffic to your new masterpiece!

As you can see it is not as hard as you thought. With a little effort on your part you will be able put together a really nice product and put your name on it because it is from you. And with each one you do after that it will just get easier. Pretty soon you will have products all over the web which will be great for starting your list.
